I stayed the entire holiday season in Atlantic City this year. A bit hectic as I had to divide my comped hotel rooms between Taj and Resorts, but this time of year, I was grateful for the free accommodations.

The last three days of my trip, I spent at Resorts. I expected (as usual) to stay at the Rendezvous Towers but was told that at this time of year there were only so many rooms at the Rendezvous and that "your play" determines whether you get one of those rooms. My play didn't and I was given a room in the old Ocean Towers in the "renovated" section on the 10th floor.

With some trepidation (and embarrassment at my diminished status), I walked into Room 1041 and was surprised. It was a big room with lots of windows, a feather-top bed, two huge walk-in closets, two upholstered chairs and an ottoman. There was a lot of empty space that could have held a sofa, maybe a larger table and chairs to replace the tiny table and two chairs that were in the room; but for one person, the furnishings were fine.

The disappointments were 1) no safe and 2) the small bathrooms, and 3) the proximity of the bathrooms to the outer doors.

To the first: I'm not too concerned about not having a safe, although if I had had big winnings, I would have been. Easy to rectify: spend a hundred bucks and put a safe in the room.

Second, the bathrooms: there are two bathrooms with no amenities to speak of. For me as a woman, I need a hair dryer (which the Rendezvous has as a wall unit) and room to spread out--hair gel, spray, make-up, and the like. There is no countertop space and I mean zilch, nada, none. And the toilets have no tank. I thought about it--that having no tank might mean less maintenance, but it felt like a flush toilet in a campground. If you're calling Room 1041 a "suite," then I suppose you need two bathrooms; but, frankly, I'd rather have one nicely-equipped and spacious bathroom rather than the rinky-dink ones you now have.

Third, the proximity of the bathrooms to the outside doors wouldn't be all that bad except the outside doors have light coming under the sill area, and if I can hear people talking in the hall, I feel a bit uneasy in a bathroom not three feet away from that door. Solution: get a sweep or something attachable for the bottom of the outside door.

One other thing--and this is if you're calling 1041 a "suite": put a dividing wall between the living area and the bed area. It'll divide the space nicely and give a sense of luxury rather than the make-shift redo you presently have.

All in all, though, I've got to say it was not bad. There wasn't the musty odor I've long associated with Ocean Towers. And I loved the long wall of windows. Add to that the convenience: no long walk across the casino to get my morning cuppa coffee, an elevator that takes you directly to the club on the 13th floor or the buffet on the dining floor. I've got to admit that I liked those conveniences. Now if you could see your way to making the changes I've suggested, I'd be more than happy to give up the Rendezvous and stay at the "old" Resorts Ocean Towers.
